Wishing you and your families Happy Holidays!
I am excited to share with you the news and updates regarding our 2020 ISMICS Annual Scientific Meeting which will take place in Warsaw, Poland, from the 4th to the 6th of June. We have had many requests to allow an extension of our Abstract Deadline, and I want to remind you that our site is now open through Thursday, January 2nd. We encourage you and your colleagues to submit your best work and join us for our 23rd Annual Meeting next summer!
Our ISMICS Annual Meeting is now 3 days long, and we are featuring interactive Masters Sessions each morning, which will incorporate Lectures from world-renowned faculty, interspersed with Live Surgery transmissions featuring both thoracic and cardiac cases. Our moderators will be cutting back and forth from talks to the OR, ensuring that you will not miss a moment of the most important parts of each procedure.
ISMICS will be traveling to some of the top Thoracic Meetings coming up, and I want you to visit us! ISMICS will be attending the STS Annual Meeting taking place 25 to 28 January, 2020 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Visit our team on the exhibit floor – pick up a complimentary copy of our journal, INNOVATIONS, and make sure that your membership is up to date – remember that ISMICS members receive large discounts to attend our Annual Meeting!
I am delighted to share with you how our membership has continued to grow – 80 new members have joined our Society since our Annual Meeting in New York, and we continue to add members on a weekly basis. ISMICS remains the leading organization for minimally invasive and innovative cardiothoracic surgery – and our members remain the pioneers of new surgical procedures.
Remember that ISMICS continues to have an active presence around the world – and I want to thank Dr. Jorge Catrip and his team from Mexico City for hosting our exciting Workshop this past fall. The Workshop was excellent and the faculty was top notch – and we gained many new members from the region who we look forward to welcoming in Poland next June.
I also remind you that our Editor in Chief of INNOVATIONS, the official publication of ISMICS, continues to build our journal and wants your most cutting edge content for publication. INNOVATIONS, is Medline indexed and has been accepted by Thomson Reuters for indexing in the Emerging Sources Citation Index. I encourage you, as leaders in the field, to submit your best work to our journal, which offers speedy review and quick publication through a qualified and rigorous peer-review process.
I am so honored and humbled to be your 2019-2020 President, and if I have not met you personally yet, I hope to so soon!

Thank you to the members, presenters, and exhibitors who attended the 19th Annual Meeting of ISMICS this past spring in New York City. For those who were unable to attend, please enjoy the highlights from the meeting.
ISMICS saw great Annual Meeting attendees in New York, 57% of attendees were from outside the US and Canada, 37% of attendees were members, and 17% of attendees were residents, fellow, or students. The society is showing a steady growth in its members as a testament for its importance in the field.

The International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery (ISMICS) was formed in 1997 to enhance, promote and support research and education in, and related to, the field of minimally invasive cardiac surgery. In 2004 the Society expanded its scope and mission to include research and education in minimally invasive thoracic surgery.
ISMICS is helping shape the future of less invasive cardiac and thoracic surgery on a global basis. The mission of the Society is to lead and promote innovation and technological advancement in cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery through scientific analysis and education. The Society has over 800 international members which include Active, Candidate, Honorary, Allied Health Professional and Senior members. ISMICS is governed by a Board of Directors which meets three times a year and INNOVATIONS, which is MEDLINE indexed, is its official journal.
ISMICS created the Research and Education Fund, formerly the Leadership Fund, in 2006 to fund the Presidents' Awards at the ISMICS Annual Meetings and Winter Workshops. The Officers of ISMICS have taken the lead in supporting the ISMICS Research and Education Fund and invite you to assist them in their goal of funding its annual awards. Your generous gift will help them to attain that goal.
