Dear Members of ISMICS and Colleagues,
Happy Fall! We are well underway with our plans for the 2019 Annual Scientific Meeting which will take place in New York City, 29 May 1 June. The abstract submission site will open the last week of September and I encourage you to submit your abstracts to be considered for the 22nd Annual Scientific Meeting. The 2019 meeting is going to have a slightly different format which will allow more interaction and engaged discussions
ISMICS will be traveling to some of the top Thoracic Meetings and I want you to visit us! ISMICS will be attending the STS Annual Meeting taking place 26-30 January, 2019 in San Diego, California, look for our booth then! We attended the EACTS meeting in October and even gained a few new members from being present!
We are also looking forward to the ISMICS Workshop which will take place 8-10 November 2018 at the Zappeion Megaron Hall of Athens, in conjunction with the 14th Annual Meeting of the "Euro-Asian Bridge" Society and the 2nd World Meeting of the Hellenic Cardiothoracic Diaspora. I look forward to the program put together by Dr. Sotirios Prapas and his team. A friendly reminder if you plan on attending book your space now as it’s a busy time of year for Athens, Greece.
INNOVATIONS, the official publication of ISMICS, continues to be issued bi-monthly as a timely resource providing the latest and greatest technological developments and techniques in the field. INNOVATIONS, is Medline indexed and has been accepted by Thomson Reuters for indexing in the Emerging Sources Citation Index and is expected to be granted its first impact factor before the end of 2019. I encourage ISMICS members, as leaders in the field, to continue submitting their work to the journal, as it is an excellent means to facilitate an international exchange of knowledge and expertise in this growing area of study within the specialty. Again, thank you to all those who contribute.
ISMICS has a lot of great changes in the works to better the society and I look forward to what 2019 has in store and am honored to have this opportunity as ISMICS President to help our Society lead and promote innovation and technological advancement in cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery. I hope to see many of you at the upcoming meetings this fall and in 2019.

Thank you to the members, presenters, and exhibitors who attended the 18th Annual Meeting of ISMICS this past spring in Vancouver. For those who were unable to attend, please enjoy the highlights from the meeting below.
ISMICS saw 465 Annual Meeting attendees in Vancouver. 57% of attendees were from outside the US and Canada, 33% of attendees were members, and 19% of attendees were residents, fellow, or students.
The Annual Meeting social events included a unique view of the Vancouver skyline with a sunset harbor cruise on Friday evening.

The ISMCIS Board of Directors is delighted to inform you that after a rigorous and intense Editor Search, the ISMICS Publications Committee and Board of Directors have selected Dr. Niv Ad to serve as the next Editor in Chief of INNOVATIONS, to succeed Dr. Ralph Damiano.
The new editor comes as we transition into a new publisher. Wolters Kluwer has been publishing INNOVATIONS for the last few years and multiple volumes, however starting January 1st, 2019 INNOVATIONS will be published with Sage Publishing. According to the Sage website "Sage has published over 1,000 journals, including those of more than 400 learned societies and institutions." Sage has a strong history and background of publishing multiple societies journals and the ISMICS Board feels strongly in their choice as the society continues to grow and INNOVATIONS becomes more well known.

The International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery (ISMICS) was formed in 1997 to enhance, promote and support research and education in, and related to, the field of minimally invasive cardiac surgery. In 2004 the Society expanded its scope and mission to include research and education in minimally invasive thoracic surgery.
ISMICS is helping shape the future of less invasive cardiac and thoracic surgery on a global basis. The mission of the Society is to lead and promote innovation and technological advancement in cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery through scientific analysis and education. The Society has over 800 international members which include Active, Candidate, Honorary, Allied Health Professional and Senior members. ISMICS is governed by a Board of Directors which meets three times a year and INNOVATIONS, which is MEDLINE indexed, is its official journal.
ISMICS created the Research and Education Fund, formerly the Leadership Fund, in 2006 to fund the Presidents' Awards at the ISMICS Annual Meetings and Winter Workshops. The Officers of ISMICS have taken the lead in supporting the ISMICS Research and Education Fund and invite you to assist them in their goal of funding its annual awards. Your generous gift will help them to attain that goal.
